(Under the download links for the most current version.) Some of the negatives may have been remedied in the newer version, but I haven’t updated to the latest version yet so I cannot tell you much. It has recently pulled a massive update and moved onto a new version, but the old one is still available if you encounter any bugs. I was without photoshop for a good long while and this saved my butt! It’s a great little program and has been steadily improving as I have been using it. This is one of my favorite softwares to draw with.
Not much more than your default file types yet. brushes and palettes must all be loaded in one at a time. if you want a softer brush, you need to make your own alpha. FireAlpaca is everything you’d ever want in free. It’s one of the better free options for digital painting software and it’s simple enough for beginners to pick up in a jiffy. It’s famed for its lightning fast running speed and support for low-spec computers. No hardness/softness adjust for the brush. FireAlpaca is a free digital painting program that works on MacOS and Windows. Cannot be resized larger than 10000x10000 afterwords.) Canvas limit of 10000x10000 (Can be bypassed in newer versions, but only by set incriments. Not much more than general editing tools (hue slider, levels, gaussian blur, etc) Program - FireAlpaca (PGN Inc.) Tested version - v2.0.1 Price - Free, ad supported (single closable window) no malware in version tested. Has all the same shortcuts as photoshop. Can lock opacity and protect alpha available. Multiple shape and snap tools for a fast and easy workflow. Has a bezier curve tool, WITH pressure sensitivity. Has a brush stabilizer, for smooth lines. Easily make your own brushes and adjust brush settings. 
It’s very user friendly, and there are lots of resources out there to help you get started! It works similarly to both programs, and is available both for Mac and Windows users. Fire Alpaca is a free-to-use alternative drawing program to use in lieu of Photoshop or Paint tool SAI.
