Oh shit, I just realised I'm in the Vault Explorer, seems you can't do anything there except view the entry Back to the designcontent server and search there works, phew: So I can download the ZIP, uncompress it, and install it the old fashioned way: Back to the 1990's. So I can hotlink back to the Libary, cool, but still can't download it. But hey, this is 2016, I want to search everything Altium has to offer, so I try the search, and LOL But I try again, and bingo! Something is going right: So I clip on a part and can I download the libary? Nope. But were can you download them ALL? You know, if I want to work offline. Bloody registration, piss off! But I have a Live account, so ok, I can download them. Then I remember the components were on the live portal website thingo, and bingo! Why can't there be a direct link to this from AD? Why can't I see and install these libraries automatically from within AD? Like, seriously. Fat lot of good that would have done anyway because AD16 can't even read that component library file This is getting stupid. That means linking vaults to traditional libraries is out: So I frantically google and get Help on how to install a library component from the new Supplier Search feature, awesome! I create a component library file and follow the instructions (it's convoluted and hidden away, but lets run with it): So I search for a part and up it comes, this is great! But nope, whatever I search for its doesn't have schematic symbol or footprint. Ok, so let's log into Altium's component Vault. So let's try the vault system search from the main menu. No icon, no mention option, nothing in the place part dialog, nothing. Ok, so let's try the new Supplier parts integration they have. Nope, they have bugger all, classic Altium, good to see things haven't changed, but I kind of expected they all be online now, so ok. Only two libraries are installed (typical Altium, nothing changed there it seems) Ok, so I can download and install libraries the old fashioned way, but of course they froze those back back at AD10, I knew that: Ok, so I can install them from the local installed libraries. So I load up AD16 and want to start placing a part on a new schematic sheet. So I get a new AD16 licence and I figure surely they have improved the library system with the Supplier Search that looks great, Octopart etc. But I've only ever used up to AD10 and regular locall libraries. So I've been using Altium my entire career, I even worked there for 4 years.
